So much has changed! And here at WLR, we are learning to adapt and change with the current public health concerns regarding COVID19. Like so many of our families, we enjoy and value our in-person programs for all the richness and variety they bring, along with the social engagement opportunities students receive during the course of the day. However, due to recent mandates, and continually changing information, at this time, we are shifting all programs to virtual learning. Once mandates are lightened again, we are keeping our hearts and minds open for possible Outdoor Education programs this fall. Please stay posted for updates by joining the WLR mailing list. Our Online Program options will be published soon! We will offer both Zoom classes that meet at specific times and offer live-time interaction with instructor and fellow students, as well as virtual "family style" programs that can be accessed at any time the family desires and enjoyed by multiple students. So much has changed! And like you, at WLR we have been learning new ways to adapt to these changes. Over the past several weeks, we have been busy shifting our remaining Winter program content to online format. In addition, we have developed NEW online programs open to both new and continuing families to experience WLR's unique approach to learning from home. This introductory program offers a variety of fun, creative artistic classes -- there is sure to be something for everyone to help ignite those creative juices! We have 2 categories of classes: 1) Family classes -- these are designed to be viewed by more than one student at any time convenient for the family. Designed for grades K-8, these classes can be viewed with the parent so that even the youngest students can engage in meaningful artistic activities as the parent learns along side child and can assist as needed. Instructors: Rick & Jennifer Tan. 2) Individual classes -- these classes meet at specific times for a period of 5 weeks via Zoom where students may interact with the teacher. Instructor: Talib Huff. To learn more about these unique learning opportunities with some of our most popular instructors, click here. WLR is please to announce new online programming.

What does the WLR Kindergarten program look like? Our program is Waldorf-inspired and built on a solid weekly rhythm, infused with nature, simple crafts, healthy movement, imaginative stories, songs and verses. Imagine your child's day in our gentle, nurturing atmosphere: Ms. Barsotti warmly greets your children and welcomes them into Room 6. Students are gently guided to a themed activity, such as planting seeds, making acorn crafts, working with clay, making stone soup together or other seasonal activities. Next comes morning circle time. Students explore language through delightful songs, verses and movement that engage the imagination and develop phonemic awareness -- all while having fun! After circle, the students are ready for snack. Each child will bring his/her own healthy snack to class. Re-energized, the students are now ready for free play outside, followed by a walk around the beautiful campus as Ms. Barsotti gently guides their exploration of the natural world. After their active morning, the children are ready to enjoy some quiet time as Ms. Barsotti shares a carefully chosen story with the class. Finally, students practice cooperation during clean-up time and complete their morning with a closing circle.
Morning program students are picked up by their parents at 11:45 a.m. Full-day day students continue enjoying time with their friends during lunch and recess. After lunch, they are off to the Garden with Ms. Barsotti to for hands-on learning about the sun, the soil, the plants, where our food comes from and more. After washing up, the students join Mr. Huff for Games -- an all-time WLR favorite! Students play age-appropriate games, held indoors or outdoors, that offer healthy physical activity, cooperative learning, social engagement and more. Our program begins soon: Thursday, September 12! To register for the Kindergarten program which is also open to first-graders, click here. Our afternoon program in Sacramento this fall will include Games with Mr. Huff and Gardening with Ms. Bridgett Barsotti. Cooperative games are a fun way for children to interact and get exercise. Such activities cultivate children’s capacities in many areas, including: sensory-motor learning, balance and coordination. Games class incorporates physical education/movement activities with cooperative learning, helping to develop social skills while having fun. Historically, this has been one of our most popular classes and Mr. Huff always makes it extra fun! In Gardening, a multi-discipline class, students will work in the garden at our Sacramento location, learning about plants, the weather and the environment. Students will be introduced to plants they can take home at the end of the session. Students will learn how plants are a vital part of the ecosystem, including our own food, and the earth as a whole. Beyond gardening, this class brings students closer to, and more aware of, the natural world that surrounds us. To learn more about our Sacramento program and to register, click here.
