What does the WLR Kindergarten program look like? Our program is Waldorf-inspired and built on a solid weekly rhythm, infused with nature, simple crafts, healthy movement, imaginative stories, songs and verses. Imagine your child's day in our gentle, nurturing atmosphere: Ms. Barsotti warmly greets your children and welcomes them into Room 6. Students are gently guided to a themed activity, such as planting seeds, making acorn crafts, working with clay, making stone soup together or other seasonal activities. Next comes morning circle time. Students explore language through delightful songs, verses and movement that engage the imagination and develop phonemic awareness -- all while having fun! After circle, the students are ready for snack. Each child will bring his/her own healthy snack to class. Re-energized, the students are now ready for free play outside, followed by a walk around the beautiful campus as Ms. Barsotti gently guides their exploration of the natural world. After their active morning, the children are ready to enjoy some quiet time as Ms. Barsotti shares a carefully chosen story with the class. Finally, students practice cooperation during clean-up time and complete their morning with a closing circle.
Morning program students are picked up by their parents at 11:45 a.m. Full-day day students continue enjoying time with their friends during lunch and recess. After lunch, they are off to the Garden with Ms. Barsotti to for hands-on learning about the sun, the soil, the plants, where our food comes from and more. After washing up, the students join Mr. Huff for Games -- an all-time WLR favorite! Students play age-appropriate games, held indoors or outdoors, that offer healthy physical activity, cooperative learning, social engagement and more. Our program begins soon: Thursday, September 12!
