![]() WLR is excited to announce our new Science class for Grades 5-8! If you are looking for an engaging Science class for your upper grades’ student, check out our fantastic, two-period, hands-on Science class at our Sacramento location. Join Ms. Michelle Kizner on Thursday afternoons to explore the fascinating world of Science, including: Chemistry and Physical Science Students will learn about simple machines and engineering through hands-on activities, including how planes, wedges, pulleys and other simple machines work to move heavy objects. Students will learn about the strongest shapes for building and bridge design through fun, hands-on activities. Class will also cover the exciting world of Rocket Science including aerodynamics, design & build rockets, force and gravity, mass, velocity, acceleration. In addtion, Ms. Kizner will engage the students with a unit on simple circuits, including building a circuit with a potato and light bulb. During the chemistry unit, students will learn about chemical reactions; the difference between solutions and mixtures; solids, liquids and gases; and temperature, pressure and heat. Life and Earth Science Students will learn about Ecology, collecting and categorizing as well as animal identification. Also covered: nutrient and water cycles as well as creating ecosystem models to observe over time. Click here to register for Science for Grades 5-8. About the Instructor With both a BS in Ecology and an MS in Biology, Michelle Kizner has an extensive science background. In addition, Ms. Kizner is familiar with the needs and interests of homeschooling families as she previously worked as an educational specialist with a local charter for homeschoolers. She is experienced in creating meaningful educational experiences for children of all ages in a variety of settings.
