<![CDATA[WHOLISTIC LEARNING RESOURCES - News]]>Sat, 18 May 2024 04:55:33 -0700Weebly<![CDATA[May 2024: What's up at WLR?]]>Sat, 18 May 2024 04:24:53 GMThttp://wlrclasses.com/news/may-2024-whats-up-at-wlrPicture
So over the past several months, I’ve been teaching Art at a local public school — which has been both challenging and amazing! Of course, it’s very different from homeschooling: three days a week, I visit 19 separate classes, teaching approximately 550 students in grades 1-5. Phew!! We’ve been drawing, painting, weaving, playing with clay — and more!

This radically different environment and approach has had me reflecting in many ways, including my work with WLR: the beautiful program we created for over 12 years. So the news is: I’m seriously considering re-launching the program! And thank you to those who have been following along, visiting the site, inquiring and sending messages.

In order to get a feel for the interest level and needs of the community at this time, I created a SHORT survey. Please take a moment to click here to complete the survey. I promise — it will only take about a minute or so to complete!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. And thank you for completing the short survey!

<![CDATA[The Future of WLR]]>Fri, 15 Jul 2022 19:46:47 GMThttp://wlrclasses.com/news/the-future-of-wlr
Our upcoming programming is currently on hold. WHY?!
In addition to running WLR, I have been teaching yoga for over 20 years and recently completed a two-year training to become a Licensed Professional Practitioner through the Centers for Spiritual Living. Spiritual growth and development has always been at the center of my life and I am being called to bring approximately 30 years of study and practice to support others deeply.

That being said, WLR has been such a blessing and a joy! I have received much positive feedback from the homeschooling community regarding our programs and I continue to support new homeschoolers who find us online and call, looking for advice on getting started.

My intention is to see WLR continue with fresh new leadership to take the reins. Do you know someone who may be interested helping grow WLR into its next phase? The ideal candidate is someone who possesses:
 • Administrative skills & is a self-starter
 • An entrepreneurial spirit & sense of adventure
 • Passion for education, especially homeschooling
 • Joy for working with children, parents and teachers
 • A creative, open mind
 • A vision for wholistic learning

WLR is ready and ripe for the next level – and I am here to support with guidance and training so that the program continues to thrive. For the right person, this can be either a part-time or full-time endeavor.

Feel free to forward this email to anyone who may be interested in this unique opportunity.

If this is calling you, reach out to me directly by email, or call me at 916-606-0799. I look forward to connecting with you.

IN THE MEANTIME
I am accepting adults and students ages 12+ in my ongoing yoga classes which are available 4 days / week via Zoom with occasional in-person classes for special events or workshops. Click here to learn more. Anyone can begin with the New Student Special (image below).
Once the school year begins, a limited number of vouchers will be accepted; contact me for more information. In addition, after the New Student Special expires, reduced rates are available for homeschooling families. Contact me for more information.

All the best,

Sandra Russi, E-RYT, RScP

<![CDATA[Our Basketball class is ready to go!]]>Fri, 15 Oct 2021 07:00:00 GMThttp://wlrclasses.com/news/basketball-is-hereUPDATED: 10/15/21
We are excited to announce that we have an initial minimum enrollment to begin our new basketball program! Join us in Elk Grove on Tuesdays from 2:00-3:00 p.m., beginning 10/26/21, for a fun active class where students will learn the basic skills of dribbling, shooting, passing and more.
Basketball is an excellent sport for homeschoolers. Why? It is one of the few team sports that a child can actually spend lots of free time practicing by his or herself. I have fond memories of my son, Noah, shooting hoops in our small side yard with a child-sized hoop. What a joy to hear him running, shooting, playing and "calling the game" just like he had heard local sports announcers do so for our Sacramento Kings! Once he got older he was able to walk down to our local park to shoot on his own or meet some friends to play and practice.

WLR is excited to bring new instructor Allen Esealuka to our team of outstanding teachers. Dedicated and passionate about the education, health and well-being of all students, Mr. Allen is a supportive, uplifting role model. Scroll down to learn more or click below to register.

Students will learn to play in a fun, supportive environment. Basic skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting along with the rules of the game will be learned throughout the course. Breathwork, stretching, and movement will be taught at the beginning of each class.

Supplies needed: Students will come prepared to play, wearing appropriate tennis shoes and gym shorts (or sweatpants). They will bring a standard-sized basketball (be sure it is inflated) and water bottle.

<![CDATA[What about COVID? What is WLR's policy?]]>Sat, 21 Aug 2021 23:16:48 GMThttp://wlrclasses.com/news/august-21st-2021Picture
We understand and appreciate that there are a variety of perspectives when it comes to the health and safety of children, as well as the general population, and we appreciate the inquiries we have received from returning families as well as those new to WLR over the past 6-12 months regarding COVID concerns.

Over the summer, some difficult decisions had to be made. The desire to return to in-person programming has been strong! Initially, we thought we would be able to return to "operations as usual" in the classroom. However, once it became clear that this would require masks be worn by everyone when indoors, WLR chose to move all programming outdoors.

As a part-time, supplemental program, our time with your children is limited. So rather than spending precious class time policing mask compliance, we made the decision to only offer outdoor programming for our in-person classes. Masks are NOT required outside; however, for any who so choose, a mask may be worn if desired.

Since WLR receives funds from California public charter schools on behalf of many of its students, we are required to abide by state and local mandates in regard to COVID19 health and safety protocols when working with youth groups.

Therefore, parents / guardians are required to agree to the WLR policy and waiver upon registration with WLR for any in-person programs. In addition, please note the following:
 • WLR teachers are vaccinated against COVID19 unless medically contra-indicated.
 • WLR teachers will assist students in maintaining social distancing during class. Parents are responsible for their children before and after class.
 • A natural, effective non-drying hand sanitizer will be available for before, during and after class.
To read the full COVID waiver before completing registration, please go to the WLR Terms & Conditions page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
